When a player wins a turnover because they forced the opposition into a penalty at the breakdown (e.g. jackaling over the ball and drawing a “not releasing” call). In games, this is coded as “Opp Turnover Lost From Penalty”.

How it’s identified

  • The defending team applies pressure at the breakdown.
  • The attacking team commits an infringement (hands in the ruck, not rolling away, entering from the side, etc.).
  • The referee awards the penalty to the defending team.
Credit goes to the player the penalty is against on the home side, or to the player who causes the turnover on the opposition side.
