How it’s identified
- The defender clearly attempts to tackle (reaches, wraps, or shoots in).
- The defender fails to stop or bring down the ball carrier when it would be reasonable to expect the tackle to be made.
Notes
- A defender who could not complete the tackle because of an obstruction is not counted as a missed tackle.
- A hold-up (carrier stopped upright, never brought to ground) is not a missed tackle and not a tackle either.
