# Offload

An offload is a short pass made by a player while they are being tackled, before they reach the ground, to a teammate in support.

## How it's identified

* A tackled ball carrier passes the ball while going to ground, OR
* A grounded player releases the ball before a ruck forms (before opposition players bind over it).

A pass without contact is a regular pass, not an offload.
